I am challenged by the staggering number of people I meet that continue in their relationship with depression. I make no claims to have the solution. And perhaps their is no solution for some. Depression for many in our community is more than a challenge, it has become a lifestyle.
Many doctors have labored for many years trying to bring comfort to those who battle this antagonizing enemy. There are more medications and more financial resources now to treat these symptoms than ever in the history of mankind. If only the result was more people getting better. However, the statistics tell us differently.
Perhaps some have put aside or never even navigated their way into the waters of the One who knows more about depression than any doctor, pharmacist, or lab technician. Can you imagine using a train to get to the moon, or digging a well using only a spoon. You would never do that, what a poor choice of resources. Perhaps for some this is what it feels like to overcome bouts with depression.
It has been the experience of many throughout the history of time including the author of this article that there is hope and victory when we use a rocket to get to the moon and a shovel instead of a spoon.
God's ability to heal the body, mind and soul has been rejected also by the wise in society past. However, there were some who came to the Great Physician who found no hope in any other. One man possessed by demons, another who's hand was withered, and a woman who found forgiveness at a well. They are among many who took Jesus for his word.
That Physician of old wants to give you his diagnosis. He has the answer for many. Some won't have ears to hear or eyes to see. But if you give him a chance you'll find out like me!
